Ford’s Announced Recalls Affecting More Than Half Million Vehicles

There are car owners that put a premium on the aesthetics of their car’s interiors. Luckily, there are car seat covers available that matches perfectly with the car’s brand and model. For example, there are seat covers for Toyota automobiles from the popular RAV4 SUV to the 1982 Camry sedan. Honda seat cover protects the OEM upholstery and keeps the interior pristine.

Meanwhile, Ford has issued 4 new recalls that will cover 10 nameplates across the United States and Canada. One of the three recalls will affect 576,595 vehicles in the United Sates while the 4th will only affect Canadian cars.

The first recall is about the absence of seat restraints which will affect 483,325 vehicles in the US and 58,712 vehicles in Canada. According to Ford’s announcement, the vehicles that will be affected include 2018-2020 F-150, 2019-2020 F-Series Super Duty, 2018-2019 Explorer and 2019-2020 Expedition. These models with manual driver or front passenger seatback recliner mechanism have the defect. The new 2020 Explorer and Lincoln Aviator are part of the recall but only those with rear outboard seats with manual recliners.

Why is there is a recall? The vehicles mentioned may not have a 3rd pawl that will produce the required amount of seatback strength. During a crash, the weak seatback may not be able to restrain a passenger properly and increases the risks for injury. Most of the affected models were produced as early as September 2018 and as late as August 2 this year. Owners of these vehicles can bring their vehicles to the dealership for inspection of seat back assemblies. The dealer can install a new seat structure to meet the guidelines for strength and integrity for free.

Ford’s second recall will cover vehicles in Canada with high corrosion conditions due to snow and plenty of road salt. Corrosion can affect the steering gear motor’s bolts and may result to loss of power steering and increase the risks of a crash.

Many car owners upgrade their engines and machinery to increase the lifespan of their vehicles. However, these upgrades cannot protect the interior of the vehicle from wear and tear. Quality seat covers ensures that the car’s seats live up to the demands of daily driving.
