Bed Bugs Have Made A Comeback In France

The French government has waged a war against bed bugs. A campaign was launched that includes an emergency number to control the influx of bed bugs in homes and hotels. The uninvited guests feed on the blood of humans and cause severe allergic reactions. Since there is growing resistance to insecticides, exterminators are called to deal with the problem.

Bed bugs have disappeared from France in the 1950’s but made a resurgence because of international travel and the growing resistance to insecticides.  The common bed bug Cimex lectularius can be found in the temperate regions of the United States and some parts of Europe.

After World War II, bed bugs became a mild nuisance due to the widespread use of insecticide like DDT. However, the poison was banned because it was dangerous to humans, animals and the environment.

In the late 1990’s bed bugs thrived in New York. A resurgence of bed bugs in 2010 resulted to bed bugs invading high-end apartment buildings, hotels and clothing stores like Victoria’s Secret. Billions of dollars annually are being spent by businesses and homeowners to exterminate bed bugs.

In 2016, a study revealed that the reclusive creatures have become resistant to pesticides. Bed bugs continued to conquer the world. They sought out the scents of humans and snuggled in the clothing. Unknowingly, the person takes the bed bug home where they hide all day in linens and come out at night to bite. The bites are not dangerous but they leave red itchy welts.

In Paris, exterminators have treated at least 400,000 addresses that include homes, hotels and apartments in 2018. This is almost 35% more than the previous year.

The issue of bed bugs became so annoying that is was featured in the Paris 2020 electoral campaign. A mayoralty candidate promised to clean the capital of bed bugs within 100 days.

When the home is invested by bed bugs, call Exterminators Ormond Beach immediately before you spend another sleepless night. Since bed bugs have developed resistance of most insecticides, only professional exterminators can deal with them. Do not attempt to solve the pest problem on your own because you will just be wasting your time and money.
